Tooth Crown Services in San Diego, CA

A dental tooth crown from our dental office in San Diego is used to protect and restore teeth that have been severely decayed, broken, or treated with a root canal.

A dental crown can make a smile better without replacing the whole tooth.

For patients who are having dental implants put in, Dr. Hornbrook will work alongside the oral surgeon or periodontist to make sure that you have something to wear at the time of your extraction or implant surgery, so that you never have to go without teeth.

What Is A Tooth Crown?

A dental crown, or tooth crown, is a tooth cap or cover Dr. Hornbrook can place on your existing tooth or dental implant. The goal of a dental crown is to restore a tooth to its normal function, shape, and size. It can make your tooth stronger as well as help improve your smile’s appearance.

Do I Need A Dental Crown?

At Hornbrook Center For Dentistry, we might recommend a tooth crown as part of your dental treatment if you:

  • Need to cover a dental implant
  • Have a tooth that is cracked or weakened
  • Have a cavity that is too large to fill with a traditional filling
  • Have had a root canal
  • Would like to cover a discolored tooth and improve your smile’s overall appearance

What Are Tooth Crowns Made Of?

We use full-coverage crowns, made from luminous porcelain. These restorations offer beautiful aesthetic results that protect your natural tooth from further damage or decay. They’re also perfect for topping off your dental implants.

Dr. Hornbrook recommends a metal-free porcelain dental crown that we design alongside our master ceramist for a customized fit tailored to meet each patient’s unique smile needs.

There are several steps to place dental crown, so you’ll likely need to visit Dr. Hornbrook twice to complete the procedure.

During your first appointment, Dr. Hornbrook will prepare your tooth so the crown will fit. This involves also removing any decay. If your tooth isn’t strong enough to support the crown, he will also build up the tooth’s core so it will be stronger.

An impression of your tooth will be made to create an exact model for your new crown and Dr. Hornbrook will place a temporary crown on your tooth while you wait for the permanent version to be ready. This usually takes less than 2 weeks.

When your new dental crown is ready, Dr. Hornbrook will place it in your mouth and makes sure it is comfortable and fits correctly with the rest of your teeth. Once you are happy with the way it feels and looks, Dr. Hornbrook will cement it in place.
